Goodnight Memphis CD Remastered
Label:SRB

On July 5, 1976, Elvis Presley returned to Memphis for what would unknowingly become his final hometown concert. Closing out a successful summer tour, he arrived from Tulsa knowing he would end the night back at Graceland. Relaxed, energized, and clearly enjoying the occasion, Elvis rewarded the hometown crowd with one of his strongest performances of the year.
This concert has long stood apart from the rest of 1976. While the year is often remembered for its inconsistent shows, Memphis tells a different story. From the opening notes of "See See Rider," Elvis sounds focused, confident, and fully engaged.
The setlist is filled with hometown highlights. Elvis delivers his only touring performance of "Softly, As I Leave You" and the only hometown rendition of "It's Now or Never."
Most memorable of all is his spirited return to "That's All Right," 22 years to the day after recording it just miles away for Sun Records, declaring, "I've heard a couple of people say that I can't do that anymore, but by God, just watch me!" What follows is spirited, playful, and a fitting return to the song that started it all.
Presented here in a new SRB Records stereo remaster, "Goodnight, Memphis" brings new clarity to a remarkable evening, placing Elvis, the band, and the atmosphere of the Mid-South Coliseum at center stage, capturing the sound of an artist enjoying the moment, giving everything he had to the city that had been with him from the very beginning.
